Spacetop G1: The Screenless Laptop Redefining Productivity

The Spacetop G1, the world's first screenless augmented reality (AR) laptop, officially launched in May 2024. Developed by Sightful, a Tel Aviv-based startup founded by former Magic Leap executives Tamir Berliner and Tomer Kahan, the device merges the familiar form of a laptop with AR capabilities. Instead of a traditional display, users wear XREAL Air 2 Ultra glasses, which project a virtual 1080p screen for an immersive, private workspace experience.

This screenless setup allows for greater multitasking capabilities and a more expansive workspace than conventional laptops.

The G1's design includes a keyboard and trackpad, preserving the familiar laptop experience while integrating AR for a new computing approach. The glasses, which are lightweight and comfortable, are hardwired to the laptop and offer features such as a dimming button for ambient lighting. They also support custom prescription lenses, making the device accessible to a wide range of users.

Powered by a Snapdragon processor and running on Sightful's custom SpaceOS (based on Chromium), the Spacetop G1 supports productivity apps like Microsoft 365 and Zoom. While it excels in multi-tasking, it is not intended for high-performance tasks such as video editing. For connectivity, it offers Wi-Fi 7 and optional 5G support, along with two USB-C ports and a built-in 5MP webcam.

Sightful envisions the Spacetop G1 as a future-forward device, providing a seamless blend of physical and virtual environments, ideal for on-the-go professionals seeking flexibility. Its compact design ensures easy portability, though the need to carry the AR glasses separately may add some logistical considerations
